I have fallen in love with the beautiful stink of animal musks and ouds. Feral is a scent steeped in the traditions of middle eastern perfumery. The initial spray is rich powdery iris cut by the bite of the castoreum and rum. Deep, complex and strangely enticing despite making your nose curl. As is sits on the skin the initial bite dissipates as it opens to a rich oud and sandalwood. The castoreum sits in the background still present but cloaked in layers of sweet resins. Blissfully ignoring the danger for a moment of comfort.

An ode to Jeanne Mammen, an artist active in early 20th century documenting the unique queer scene of Berlin after WW1. She acted as a fly on the wall at cafes and clubs, illustrating the burgeoning city life. Berlin at the time was seen as an unrepairable den of sin. That left space for queer folk to make lives for themselves unburdened by the conservative masses.
Bright violet strikes through the cold mossy cobblestone streets. The lights of a small café pierce through the dark night drawing her into its warmth. Café Nollendorf the sign read. A single violinist played in the corner for the small crowd, most of them not paying attention. Two women taken by the somber song slow dance looking deeply into each others eyes. Jeanne settles at a table, inhales the smoky ambiance of the café, and starts to draw.

This is a scent that I have lovingly been calling my surreal summer salad. It’s a fruity citrus oddity. Soft vegetal greenery melding with caramel resins, bright mandarin and creamy mango. This is unlike any citrus scent you’ve smelled before.

Priests of dilapidated tech, Old hunks of metal and plastic bandaged with scrap. The basic functioning of these machines is akin to magic and deserving of worship. A religion held together by a deep desire for answers but an aversion to the ones in the reality around them. At night the priests prowl the cobblestone streets. Waving incense and dragging the heavy cables behind them. The cables connect them to the divine and to sever that connection is heresy.
The top of the scent is dominated by a rush of absinthe, frankincense and violet absolute. As it sits the blend of rose absolutes start to come through, though not as jammy and bright as they can usually be. The amount of deep resins and mosses in the scent pull the focus to the round fullness of the rose. Eventually though the rose withers leaving behind rich patchouli and a feeling of old electronics.
