“Are you done yet?” he whined from the dusty leather seat fingering at one of the many holes in the decaying chair.
“Almost there” a she said her voice muffled by the downed hovercraft she was under. “you know this would go a lot faster if you helped”.
“I’m aware” he responded and returned to toying with the hole in the seat.
“ I thought the parts I bought from the Junker would at least get us to the next camp but it looks like we were ripped off” she said a little muffed as she threw her weight behind the last torque of the wrench.
“Are you sure it was the parts? I'm pretty sure the thing is way past its expiration date” He said as he reached over gently patting the side of the vehicle, accidently dislodging a metal plate tacked to the side.
She quickly clambered out from under the vehicle and looked up at him with a fright look in her eyes “BE CAREFUL! This is my baby and if YOU break it we will be stranded out in the middle of this god damn desert”.
He sheepishly met her gaze “sorry”
“Throw that plate in the back for now, I think I she’ll at least get us to the camp and I want a shower and a bed” she said wiping oil covered hands on her overalls.
Both seated in the hovercraft she turned the key “come on come on come on”. The engine sputtered to life coughing as the vehicle lifted itself off the sand.
